Notes

[NI0061] Note (2-20-1999 JF): The marriage record (Jan 19, 1810) for Joannes Vrobel to Maria Bendik lists their ages at 22 (for Joannes) and 18. Based on age, I believe that this is Joannes Vrobel (born Jun 20, 1789) who would have been 20 at the time of the marriage. The other Joannes (born Dec 1791) would have been 18.

[NI0123] Served in the US Air Force (initially the Army Air Corp) from March, 1942 to October, 1965. Retired at rank of Lieutenant Colonel.

[Recorded by John Fabry, Jr - Jan 3, 2002]

History of John (Jack) Fabry, Sr.

When he was in grade school, he broke his right elbow while trying to deliver papers on roller-skates. To straighten out his arm after the elbow mended, the doctor had him carry a bucket of sand. Later, the doctor had him carry two buckets of sand to balance the load.

After high school, John worked at J&L (steel mill) on 2nd Ave and went to Carnegie Tech at night where he studied General Engineering. He was going to major in Electrical Engineering but had to stop attending Carnegie due to WWII.

When he was close to being drafted, he enlisted into the Army (in March, 1942) and entered the Army Air Corp which later became the Air Force. In the Army, he qualified for Officer Training School (OTS) and attended Yale as part of OTS.

During "Occupation" after WWII, he served as a crew chief on a C-47 in Germany. He also spent time in Czechoslovakia, Italy and north Africa.

During the Korean War, he worked on the engineering to expand and thicken the runways in Japan and South Korea so the runways could handle B-52 bombers and other large aircraft.

Other locations he was stationed at during his military experience included (but not in chronological order):
- Japan (2nd tour)
- Camp Bill in California
- Harlingen, TX
- radar site at Goose Bay Labrador, where he was second in command.

He married Teresa DiPaolo on Nov 28, 1964 when he was stationed at Lockbourne AFB in Columbus, OH. At Lockbourne AFB in October, 1965, he retired from the Air Force as a Lieutenant Coronel after 23 years of service.

He then worked at the post office in Columbus, OH for nearly a year, before they moved to Rantoul, IL in August 1967 for a Civil Service job at Chanute Air Force Base. He retired from Chanute AFB on December 31, 1987, after 20 years of service. The federal government closed Chanute AFB in 1993.

[NI0130] Note (2-17-1999 JF): Stephan came to New York (from Hungary) on 6-2-1901 aboard the S.S. Potsdam which left Rotterdam on 5-23-1901. We originally believed that he changed his surname from FABRI to FABRY when he immigrated; however, I found that at least one generation earlier using the FABRY spelling in Hungary (now Slovakia). Prior to that, they used the FABRI spelling.

[NI0131] Came to New York (from Hungary) on 6/27/1899 aboard the S.S. Kaiser W. De Grosse which left Bremen on 6/20/1899.
Not certain when she met George (her 1st husband that she married 10/2/1902) and not certain when she moved to Pittsburgh.

[NI0274] Note (5-9-1999 JF): The death record (Sep 2, 1817) I found for Catharina Michok shows her age as 37, but does not list any other information. If this is the correct match, she would have been just under 35, instead of 37.

[NI0401] Profession: Bartender

[NI0412] (Note 5-8-1999 JF): I have not looked for a birth record for Maria Kolba and I did not find a marriage records (maybe we was born & married in another town); however, I did find a death record for Maria Fabry (Husband: Joannes) that lists her age as 32. I believe that this death record is for Maria Kolba since her husband would have been about the same age.

[NI0413] As of 9/1998, Highwood Cemetery could not locate George's plot.

[NI0417] Cause of death was due to lung complications.

[NI0425] There is a chance that this is not the correct Jacob Fabry. There could possibly be two Jacob Fabry & Maria Buday couples since:

1 - The 1st 4 children (Michael, Stephan, Andreas, George & Paul) were born in house #97 (according to the birth records) while the last 3 children (Maria, Jacob, & Stephan) were born in house #101. However, the couple could have moved.
2 - Two children were named Stephan. The birth record does not show the passage of the 1st Stephan; however, I have not checked the death records.
3 - The possible 2nd set of children were named for the parents (Maria & Jacob). Seems odd that they waited to name the 6th son after the father.
4 - The father would have been 50 and the mother 43 when the last child was born -- which is not impossible.
5 - Maria Buday was a popular name (and there is the occassional Jacob Fabry). There is even a Maria Buday (cousin?) married to a Mathias Zurik also living in house #97. Definitely a second Maria since I found the marriage to Mathias.

FOR NOW, I am assuming one couple (with 8 children) since :

1 - I cannot find a marriage for a 2nd couple
2 - The children's ages are reasonably spaced (1858, 60, 62, 65, 68, 70, 72, and 74)

[NI0426] Important: See the note tied to Jacob Fabry (husband).

[NI0657] Note (2-19-1999 JF): The first name was too light on the microfilm to be read.

[NI0662] Note (2-11-1999 JF): Since I have not been able to link Stephanus Vrobel (father of Michael) with my gggg-grandfather (Georgius Vrobel), I do not know if Joannes Suszter's daughter (Maria) is married to a Vrobel relative or not. Also see the similar note under +Stephanus Vrobel.

[NI0675] Note (2-26-1999 JF): I found the (Mar 23, 1794) death record for a Joannes Buday; however, I do not have any other events for Joannes to guess if the age (67) is correct. For now, I will assume that I have a match.

[NI0748] (Note 5-18-1999 JF): The death record I found for Georgius Vrobel shows that he was already widowed ("vidus"), which is correct (Catharina died Dec 1, 1805). I believe this is the correct person since I have not seen any other Geogius-s in the same timeframe. The death record shows his age to be 62 which places his birth about 1751.

[NI0749] Note (2-20-1999 JF): I found a death record for Catharina Vrobel which I believe to be Catharina Kiszel. According to the entry, she was 64 years old when she passed away, which places her birth about 1741.

[NI0754] Note (2-11-1999 JF): I have not been able to link Stephanus with my gggg-grandfather (Georgius Vrobel). There may not be any relationship, or they may be brothers. Since I have not seen any Vrobel records before Abt. 1775, I assume that the Vrobel family came to Kubach from another town.

[NI0762] Note (2-22-1999 JF): The Nov 27, 1826 marriage of Joannes Vitkay (age 24) to Catharina Buday (age 22) also lists their fathers as Joannis Vitkay and Adami Buday. Catharina Buday (born Nov 7, 1800) is the most likely match and her father's name matched; however, she would have been 26 at the time of the marriage. There are no other Catharina Buday-s between 1800 and 1808. I have more confidence that this is the correct Catharina since it appears that her brother Jacobus also marries the same day (to Maria Lopuch).

[NI0786] Profession: Aspiring Photographer

[NI0845] Passed away Jan 22, 1887 (if I correctly understand the birth record note).

[NI0902] Note (2-27-99 JF): Based on the marriage in 1789 and the fact that Maria and Adamus had children until 1808, I would guess that Maria was no more than 20 when they married, which would place her birth around 1770. For now, I am listing her birth as Between 1760 and 1775.

[NI0930] Note (2-17-1999 JF): The wedding for Jacob Fabry and Maria Michok (on 11-13-1822) states that Maria was 18 when she married which would have her born in 1804. The marriage record also shows that her father was Jacob. I can only find one Maria Mihok/Michok born in Oct, 1802 with a father of Jacob. Since Mihok/Michok was not a popular surname there is little chance of there being another Maria with a father of Jacob.

[NI0933] Michael's death date was noted next to his birth entry. I have not confirmed the date on the death records. I assume he passed away in Kubach.

[NI0935] Not certain how the first name is spelled on the birth record.

[NI0936] George's death date was recorded next to the birth record. I have not confirmed the date with the death records.

[NI0937] There is a death date noted next to Paul's birth record; however, the area near the date is too dark to read the date.

[NI0938] Note (2-18-1999 JF): Based on Joseph Buday's marriage to Maria Bendik (on 11-16-1830), Joseph was 22 years old when he married which would have placed his birth about 1808. From 1800 to 1815, I only find one Joseph Buday who was born 3-10-1803 (5 years earlier than I expected) which I assume to be the correct match.

I did find another Joseph Buday born 1-31-1794, however, I assume this could not be him based on age.

[NI0939] Note (2-18-1999 JF): Based on Maria Bendik's marriage to Joseph Buday (on 11-16-1830), Maria was 20 years old when she married which would have placed her birth about 1810. From 1800 to 1815, I only find one Maria Bendik who was born 4-7-1802 (8 years earlier than I expected). I need to check for other marriages before assuming this is the correct Maria.

[NI0944] Not certain if the birth date listed on the marriage record is April 8, 1835 or Aug 8, 1835.

[NI0946] Note (2-19-1999 JF): I believe the name (Elisabet or Elisabeth) is correct; however, the first couple letters of the first name are truncated on the microfilm.

Note (2-22-1999 JF): On the Nov 22, 1824 marriage record of Joannes Bendik (age 24) and Elisabetha Buday (age 17), the fathers are shown as Joannes Bendik and Adami Buday. I can only find one Elisabeth (born Oct 7, 1805) in the correct timeframe whose father is Adam. She would have been 19 at the time of the marriage.

[NI0948] (Note 5-8-1999 JF): The death record for Martinus Fabri shows his age to be 62. I only can find one Martinus around that timeframe (unless this Martinus was born in a different town), but he would have been 70. For now, I believe that the death record was for Martinus born Sep 25, 1740.

[NI0949] (Note 5-8-1999 JF): I could not find a birth record for Catharina Savel who may have been born in another town. The death record I found for Catharina Fabry (Husband: Martinus) lists her age as 62 so she was born about 1748.

[NI0950] Note (2-11-1999 JF): The marriage record for Joannes and Anna did not list parents; however, their ages were shown (Joannes-19 & Anna-24). Based on age, I believe that I matched Joannes's birth with his marriage. Joannes would have been 20 at the time of the marriage which is close to the listed age (19), and there are not others (Joannes Fabri) close in age.

[NI0951] Note (2-11-1999 JF): The marriage record for Martinus and Maria did not list parents nor ages. Based on age (Martinus, son of Martinus), I believe that I matched the correct individual with the marriage. The only other Martinus Fabry/Fabri (son of Adamus) was born 10-28-1789 and would only have been 15 at the time of marriage.

[NI0955] Note (2-11-1999 JF): The marriage record for Andreas and Maria did not list parents nor ages. Based on the age of Andreas, son of Martinus, I believe that I matched the correct individual with the marriage. There are no other Andreas Fabry/Fabri-s that appear likely.

[NI0961] Note (2-20-1999 JF): The Feb 12, 1821 marriage may be for Maria Lyptak instead of Maria Lopuch. I need to check the microfilm since my photocopy is not clear.

[NI1013] Note (2-9-1999 JF): It appears that Michael and Anna may have married 11-22-1739 from the record I found on the LDS-FHC microfilm. The entry shows a Michael Komalov marrying Anna Arvai. I believe that Komalov may be the town where Michael came from (I have seen a few other listing that show towns), and they did not list his last name (Fabri). The date of this marriage is appropriate since their first child was born 9-25-1740. I also did not find any Fabri births or marriages prior to this marriage (going back to 1733) which helps confirm that Michael's family was not from Kubach.

Note (2-24-1999 JF): The death record (Feb 26, 1780) that I found for Michael Fabri only shows his name and age (78). Based on the age, I am fairly certain I have matched the record to the correct person. Also, I do not know of any other Michael Fabri-s that are near in age.

[NI1014] Note (2-26-1999 JF): The death record (May 31, 1792) that I found for Anna Fabry only shows her name and age (72). Based on the age, I believe that I have matched the record to the correct person. Anna would have been born about 1720, which would have made her 19 when she married in 1739 -- which seems logical for ages.

[NI1015] Note (2-11-1999 JF): I believe that all 7 seven children are from the same marriage; however, the father of the last 6 children was listed as Georgius Kubijkov (which I may have spelled incorrectly), instead of Georgius Vitko who was listed with the first 2 children. I check and could not find another marriage of a Georgius and Maria (unless they married in a different town if Maria was not from Kubach). Also, there is only one other Maria/Marina Fabri/Fabry (born 2-26-1748) that is close enough in age; however, she passed away when she was 5 (4-23-1754).

[NI1018] Note (2-20-1999 JF): The death record that I found for Adamus Fabri/Fabry shows him being 58 years old. I believe that he was actually 54 years old when he passed away since I have not seen any other Adamus Fabry/Fabri.

[NI1021] Note (2-27-99 JF): I found a death record (Jan, 1793) for a Georgius Kubicskov, which I believe may be Georgius Vitko, who later went by Kubijkov/Kubicskov (according to the birth records of some of the children). Based on his age (55) at death compared to the marriage date (11-1762), it seems likely I have a match.

[NI1022] (Note 5-22-1999 JF): I have not found a birth record for Catharina Bendik (married to Adamus Fabri). I did find a death record for a Catharina Fabry; however, a husband was not listed. The age is shown as 74 1/2. I think that this is most likely to be Catharina Bendik.

[NI1024] Note (2-11-1999 JF): The marriage record for Eva and Georgius (Nov, 1794) did not list parents nor ages. I believe that I matched the correct Eva with the marriage, since they showed both Vitko and Kubicko as her last names.

Note (2-19-1999 JF): I also found another marriage record for Eva with a Martinus Kneznik (Nov, 1784). In this case, her father (Georgius) was also shown on the marriage record. I need to check for a death record for Martinus Kneznik (between 1784 and 1794). After further investigation, I think I found a child for Eva and Martinus born April, 1803 (Sophia - page 203).

[NI1028] Note (2-24-1999 JF): Since it appears that Georgius's wife (Susana Fabri) re-marries on Jan 8, 1787 (to Martinus Kavalen/Panalyes), I was expecting to find a death record for Georgius Juryov/Jurcov between 1785 and 1786. I did find an entry for a Georgius; however, they only list his age (at 62). The age seems old, but also may explain why he past away. He must have married late.

[NI1035] Note (2-11-1999 JF): The marriage record for Eva and Jacobus did not list parents nor ages. I believe that I matched the correct Eva with the marriage. There is only one other possible Eva Fabry/Fabri (born 3-16-1772) and she is already married to Paulus Tomajka.

[NI1037] Note (2-19-1999 JF): Based of the birth record for Maria Fabry (born 2-27-1803) which lists her parents as Joannes Fabry and Maria Kolba, I have matched Joannes Fabry (born 5-29-1777) with this family. I could not find any marriages for a Joannes Fabry when searching from 1790 to 1805. For now, I am assuming that the father of Maria (who is Joannes) is my relative, and he must have married Maria Kolba in another town.

Note (2-20-1999 JF): I also found a marriage (Jul 3, 1811) for Joannes Fabry (age 35) and Anna Mrenka (age 25) which indicates that Joannes was widowed. Based on age, I believe this is the same Joannes that was married to Maria Kolba. I need to search for a death record for Maria Kolba around 1809-1810.

[NI1039] Note (2-19-1999 JF): I am assuming that Michael Jurtsov (who with Susana Vrobel is the father to Georgius) is the same person as Michael Juryov (who was born on Sep 20, 1778 to Georgius Juryov & Susanna Fabri). I have not yet looked for the marriage of Michael and Susana (which should be abour 1799); however, finding the marriage record probably will not help since the marriage records from 1794 to 1804 did not list parents nor ages.

I did find Michael Jurcov (born Sep 2, 1783); however, he would most likely be too young to be a match.

I also believe that I have found the correct Micheal since he named his son (Georgius) after his father.

I am separately related to both Michael Jurtsov and Susana Vrobel.

[NI1040] Note (2-11-1999 JF): The marriage record for Michael and Anna did not list parents but ages are shown (Michael-21 and Anna-18). Michael, (son of Adamus) born 9-1780, is the closed of any Michael Fabri/Fabry-s to the listed age; however, he would have been 25, not 21, at the time of the marriage.

[NI1041] Note (2-20-1999 JF): I believe that Paulus Juryov (born Jan 22, 1781) is the same Paulus Jurtsov who married Maria Buday (on Nov 16, 1808). I do need to check the birth records for another Paulus, since Paulus Juryov would have been 27 years old when marrying; however, the marriage records list his age at 25 (which is often listed incorrectly).

[NI1076] Note (2-11-1999 JF): I have not been able to link Jacobi or his son (Joannes - born 8-11-1709) with my gggg-grandfather (Michael). There may not be any relationship. I believe that Michael came from another town (Komalov), if I correctly understand his marriage record with Anna Arvaj (married 11-22-1739).

[NI1078] Note (2-11-1999 JF): I have not been able to link Georgius or his son (Paulus - born 1-3-1709) with my gggg-grandfather (Michael Fabri). There may not be any relationship. I believe that Michael came from another town (Komalov), if I correctly understand his marriage record with Anna Arvaj (married 11-22-1739).

[NI1081] Note (2-11-1999 JF): I have not been able to link Paulus or his daughter (Suzana/Sarina - born 8-18-1709) with my gggg-grandfather (Michael). There may not be any relationship. I believe that Michael came from another town (Komalov), if I correctly understand his marriage record with Anna Arvaj (married 11-22-1739).

[NI1095] Note (2-20-1999 JF): I have not been able to find the birth record for Jacobus Mihok/Michok. It is possible he was born in another town since I do not find any Mihok births before 1778.

The approximate birth year (1777) is based on what I believe is Jacobus's second marriage (Oct 22, 1817) to Maria Grena. This record lists the age of Jacobus as 40 (and widowed) and the age of Maria Grena as 23.

[NI1126] Note (2-19-1999 JF): I believe the name is correct; however, the first couple letters of the first name are truncated on the microfilm.

[NI1128] Note (5-8-1999 JF): Since I found a death record for Michael Fabry (son of Jacobi) who was 2 yrs old, I believe that this record may match the birth record where I could not read the first name. There is a chance that the death record was for the other (unknown) Fabry born Sep 16, 1807 whose father is a different Jacobi Fabry.
Note (2-19-1999 JF): Too much of the first name is truncated on the microfilm of the birth record to even guess the name. There does appear to be a character on a second line with could mean there were twins or they had another notation. For now, I will shown the first name as "(unknown)".

[NI1130] Note (5-8-1999 JF): See note under Michael Fabry born April 11, 1807.
Note (2-19-1999 JF): Too much of the first name is truncated on the microfilm of the birth record to even guess the name.

[NI1131] (Note 5-8-1999 JF): The first name on the death record is cut-off but does look like ...nes so it could be Joannes. Also, the age is shown as 3, but Joannes would have been 4. The only other child born between 1808 and 1808 to an Adamus/Adami Buday was Eva born Dec 19, 1812; however, I am fairly certain the truncated name in the death record is not Eva.

[NI1133] Note (2-20-1999 JF): I found a birth record for Mathis Lopuch (born 2-25-1809) which lists the parents as Martinus Lopuch and Maria Fabry/Fabri. Currently, I can not determine if this is Maria Fabri born Jan 18, 1783 (which I am leaning towards). Other possible Maria Fabri-s were born Feb 14, 1771 (which I can not yet link to my Fabry/Fabri line) and May 5, 1770.

[NI1141] Note (2-20-1999 JF): The marriage record (Jan 19, 1810) for Joannes Vrobel and Maria Bendik lists their ages at 22 (for Joannes) and 18. Based on age, I believe this is Maria Bendik (born Oct 28, 1791) who would have also been 18. Other possible matches are:
- Maria (born Abt. Mar, 1788 - parents: Joannes Bendik & Maria Buday) who would have been 21,
- Maria (born Apr 18, 1793 - parents: Andreas Bendik & Maria Kolarcik) who would have been 16, and
- Maria (born Dec, 1793 - parents: Joannes Bendik & Maria Kubicko) who also would have been 16.

[NI1144] Note (2-20-1999 JF): I believe that this may be the same Anna Mrenka who was married to Michael Fabri. The marriage record indicates that Joannes Fabri was a widow when they married; however, I am not sure if Anna was. I need to look for a death record for Michael Fabri/Fabry around 1810.

[NI1151] Note (2-20-1999 JF): The marriage record (May 17, 1820) of Maria Mihok (age 26) and Georgius Grena? (age 30) does not include parents. Maria can either be Maria Mihok (born Aug, 1793 - parents: Martinus Mihok & Maria Tarbarik) or Maria Mihok (born Feb 13, 1794 - parents: Joannes Mihok & Maria Riss).

[NI1156] Note (2-22-1999 JF): This is the closest match for Maria Buday based on the Oct 15, 1828 marriage to Martinus Jakubyo/Jakubjo (age 28). On the marriage, record Maria was listed as being 19. If I have the correct match, she was 18, which is closer than the other Maria Buday-s.

[NI1157] Note (2-20-1999 JF): The Nov 16, 1808 marriage record for Paulus Jurtsov and Maria Buday identifies Maria as 20 years old. This would have placed her birth around 1788, which matches Maria Buday (born Sep 9, 1788). There are others that are less likely of a match:
- Maria Buday (parents Adamus Buday & Maria Kolaraciy?) born Dec 22, 1790 who would have been 17, and
- Maria Buday (parend Georgius Buday & Catharina Bordelchik?) born Sep 3, 1791 who also would have been 17,

Also, I have not yet been able to like Maria's Buday line to my own Buday ancestors.

[NI1159] Note (2-20-1999 JF): Based on the ages shown on the Nov 02, 1808 marriage of Joannes Havas? (24) and Maria Buday (23), Maria would have been born around 1785; however, I can not find any births for Maria Buday that match. The closest is Maria born Sep 9, 1788; however, I believe she married Paulus Jurtsov on Nov 16, 1808.

[NI1167] Note (2-22-1999 JF): On the Nov 22, 1824 marriage record of Joannes Bendik (age 24) and Elisabetha Buday (age 17), the fathers are shown as Joannes Bendik and Adami Buday. I can only find one Joannes (born about Oct , 1799) in the correct timeframe whose father is Joannes. He would have been 24 or 25 at the time of the marriage.

[NI1198] (Note 5-8-1999 JF): The first name on the death record was cut off; however, I believe that there is a likely match to Eva Hudak since. . . It must be a short name like "Eva" for none of the letters to show. Also, The entry shows the father to be Pauli Hudak; it was a daughter since "filia" was shown; and her age was one. I could not find any children born to another Pauli/Paulus Hudak in the same timeframe.

[NI1214] (Note 5-22-1999 JF): The death record I found for Josephus Fabry shows his age as 9 and does not list the parents names. Josephus would have been 8. I checked and did not find any other Josephus Fabry-s born in the same timeframe.

[NI1236] Note (5-9-1999 JF): The death record for Anna Buday only shows her age as 1 1/2 yr, but does not show any other information (like her father's name).

[NI1254] Note (2-27-1999 JF): The first names of the twins (born Mar 14, 1833 to Jacobus Buday & Maria Lopuch) can not be read. They are partially cut-off.

[NI1255] Note (2-27-1999 JF): The first names of the twins (born Mar 14, 1833 to Jacobus Buday & Maria Lopuch) can not be read. They are partially cut-off.

[NI1279] (Note 5-8-1999 JF): The death record for Maria Fabry (daugther of Joannes) shows here age as 2; however, she would have been 3. I do believe that this is the correct person since there are no other likely Maria-s in the same timeframe.

[NF002] Note (5-22-1999 JF): I am not sure that the Joannes Tomajka listed in the Dec 17, 1823 marriage is the son of Paulus and was born Nov 18, 1792. The marriage record does not clearly show the father's name. Joannes Tomajka and Maria Frizs are both listed as 20 years old.

[NF003] Married at St. John's Catholic Church at Univ of Illinois in Champaign, IL.

[NF029] On marriage record, Joseph was 33 and Paraskevia was 29. Paraskevia's father was listed as deceased.

[NF106] Note (5-8-1999 JF): I no longer can match this Maria to the birth on Apr 6, 1810 since I found a death record from Dec 24, 1813.
Note (3-16-1999 JF): The marriage records shows Martinus to be 25 years old and Maria to be 27; however, the parents are not shown. Based on age, Maria Fabry (born Apr 6, 1810) would have been 28 at the time of the marriage. She is the closest Maria Fabry in age for a match.
